Emily Ratajkowski recycles engagement rings as 'divorce rings' in post-split 'evolution'

Emily Ratajkowski might have ended her marriage, but she didn't break up with the diamonds.
The model and "My Body" author shared in a recent interview with fashion magazine Vogue that she recycled past engagement rings from ex-husband, film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, and dubbed them "divorce rings."
"The rings represents my own personal evolution," Ratajkowski told Vogue. "I don’t think a woman should be stripped of her diamonds just because she's losing a man."
Ratajokowski, who split from Bear-McClard in 2021, chose to repurpose the rings after reading her friend Stephanie Danler's essay, "The Unravelers," in The Paris Review, telling Vogue that the essay is "the story of her grandmother's snake ring, a ring that is made up of the different stones from her various marriages."
The exes share their son Sylvester, 3, who celebrated a birthday on March 8 as Ratajkowski penned a heartfelt caption to an Instagram video, writing "Sly is THREE! This day three years ago I felt my beautiful baby’s soul come into the world and held him to my chest and my god—how the time has flown."
"Witnessing Sly become the loving, curious, funny and kind person he is has been the joy of my life. I feel so lucky to call myself Sly’s mama. I can’t wait to see what comes next 💞" she continued.
In her Vogue interview, she said she loved the idea of a ring "representing the many lives a woman has lived.” Later, Ratajkowski approached her jeweler friend Alison Chemla, the creator of her original engagement ring and creative director for the Alison Lou jewelry brand, to help her craft the "divorce ring."

"The idea of divorce is a separation, so it was always going to be splitting the ring into two separate but complementary rings," Chemla told Vogue, adding that the duo split the engagement ring into two new rings.
"It was a fun project to work on together amidst a hugely transitional period in my life," Ratajkowski added. "The ring became symbolic to me—some kind of token or evidence of my life becoming my own again."
According to Vogue, one ring is a pear-shaped diamond, and the other is princess-cut, with platinum and 18-karat yellow gold settings.
"Using the pear shape diamond as a pinky ring gave it real oomph," the designer told Vogue. "For the princess cut, we wanted to make it feel like a larger stone, so we added two trapezoid stones on either side."
And one ring was influenced by the world's biggest bad gal: Rihanna.

"I was very inspired by Rihanna's diamond pinky toe ring; I liked the idea of my former wedding ring ending up on my pinky," Ratajkowski added. "The princess cut was more challenging. Alison and I worked together to find something that felt fresh but also timeless."
"It's been a crazy couple of years, and finally I feel a sense of peace within myself and about the life and future I have, and will continue to build with my son. Somehow, these rings feel like a reminder that I can make myself happy in ways I never imagined," she said.
